Salvation

The Bible’s plan of salvation is very simple.  It’s so simple that many men trip over it.  God’s Word spells out in detail exactly why we need to be saved.  The Bible shows us very clearly the exact steps we need to follow in order to be saved.  Salvation means putting our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross at Calvary.  The Bible is very clear that apart from salvation, there is no way to enter into Heaven.  Let’s examine what the Bible teaches us about salvation and make sure that we’re saved and headed for heaven when we leave this life.

  1. Romans 3:10  “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”  The Bible teaches us that none of us are righteous in and of ourselves.  The word, “righteous” means innocent or holy before God.  We’re not righteous, because of our inherited sin nature.  At birth we inherited the sin nature of our ancestor Adam.  We don’t have any righteousness on our own.  We need to obtain the righteousness that is found in Christ.
  2. Romans 3:23  “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”  The Bible teaches us that we’re all sinners.  The word, “sin” means literally to miss the mark.  We have missed God’s mark of holiness and righteousness, because we have sinned before God.
  3. Romans 5:12  “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”  The Bible teaches us that we sin, because of Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden.  It is by Adam’s sin that sin entered into the world.  As a result of Adam’s sin death passed upon all men.  That means that we literally face a death sentence, because we are born with Adam’s sinful nature inside of us.  It’s more than just a physical death, we face the prospect of the second death, an eternity in the lake of fire for our sins.
  4. Romans 5:8  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  The Lord understood that we were sinners headed for an eternity in Hell separated from Him.  He created a way for us to be reconciled to Him.  God demonstrated His love toward us by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins.  Jesus Christ came to seek and save that which was lost.
  5. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  The wages, or penalty for our sin was death, physical death, then the second death of spending eternity in Hell.  God provided His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us.  He paid the wages of our sin through His death.  God offers us the gift of eternal life, if we will believe in Christ and His work for us upon the cross of Calvary.
  6. Romans 10:9-10  “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  The Bible details to us exactly what we need to do to be saved.  The Bible teaches us that we need to recognize that we’re a sinner.  We’ve all sinned and come short of the glory of God.  We need to repent of our sin.  We need to be sorry for our sin and desire to turn from our sin.  We need to confess the Lord Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins upon the cross.  He paid the price for our sins.  We need to believe that He arose from the dead on the third day.  When we believe this message from the heart, God will save us and we can become a child of God.  It’s really that simple.  It just has to be a sincere heart cry to God.  If you would like to trust Christ as Saviour, please pray the following prayer from your heart.

Dear Heavenly Father I realize that I’ve sinned against you.  I stand before you as a sinner today.  Dear God please forgive my sins.  I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins upon the cross.  I believe that He arose from the grave on the third day.  Dear God please come into my heart, save me and make me your child!

If you prayed this prayer sincerely from your heart, you have just been made a child of God.  The Bible declares to us in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  You have just passed from death unto life.  You’ve received the gift of God, eternal life in Christ.  Your place in heaven has just been secured.  When you leave this life you will pass directly into the presence of Christ.  John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”  Your salvation is secured by God.  You will never lose your salvation.  You’ve just become a child of God by faith and your future is secure in Him.  John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

There will be times you will not feel like a child of God.  There are times when that old sinful nature will rear its head and tempt you to sin.  Remember during these times that our salvation isn’t based upon emotion, or how we feel.  It is based upon what God’s Word teaches us about salvation.  You have just done what God has declared in His Word to be necessary for salvation.  Don’t allow Satan to come along and try to convince you that you’re really not saved!  He will attempt to get you confused about your newfound salvation, so that he can keep you from serving Christ with your life.  He hates the fact that you’re a new believer.  He will try to set roadblocks in your path to keep you from walking with Christ.  Start reading your Bible daily.  I would suggest the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans, as great starting places.  Find a good local church that teaches the Bible and join.  Share with them your decision for Christ and your desire to begin to learn about and walk with Christ.  I would love to hear about your decision for Christ, so I can begin to pray with you and stay in touch.  There is a link on the Contact Page at the end of this devotional that you can use to reach me and share this good news.  Please take a minute to contact me.  I want to hear what God has done in your life! I’m excited for you and this new life that you’ve begun, as a child of God.  Please don’t allow anything to move you away from this new path with God.  Learn of Him, walk with Him and spend time praying and learning from His Word.  He will change you into what He would have you to be for Him.  He will give you a new purpose for living.

II Corinthians 5:17  “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
